Meanwhile in the back Veloz was moving through the field very quickly. Back up front a few cautions gave Morris a chance to challenge Crampton for lead but Crampton would hold him off every time. Unfortunately for Veloz, he ran out of laps was only able to make it up to fifth. Crampton would go onto win with Morris second followed by Doug Curless, Ray Bollinger, and Veloz. QCR - The UMP Modifieds had two features to run Sunday night. The first feature was a make-up from last Sunday and that was the race that kicked off the night. This feature was all Milo Veloz Jr. and Doug Crampton. The top two drivers in UMP Modified points at QCR pulled away from the field from their front row starting spots. Some lapped traffic made it interesting for Veloz but he got through it and picked another feature win in as many nights, Veloz also won the feature at the LaSalle Speedway the night before. Crampton took second followed by Jason Pershy, Doug Curless, and Brandon Durbin. In the second feature race it was all Jake Waterman. In his first night back at QCR, Waterman led every lap, holding off several challengers. Ray Bollinger was all over Waterman from the drop of the green. Bollinger would get a great run off of turn four but Waterman would hold him off time after time. Unfortunately for Bollinger his car had mechanical failure with two laps to go. Waterman would hold off a late charge from Jim Sandusky and Milo Veloz Jr. to win his first career UMP Modified feature. Sandusky took second followed by Veloz, who came from last, Brad Pershy, who started 12th, and Jerry Durbin, who started 11th, rounded out the top five. Doug Crampton had a nice run too coming from second to last to finish 6th. The heat races went to Bollinger, Waterman, and Veloz.

The night’s racing would be capped off with the UMP Modifieds. A great field of 24 UMP Modifieds checked in Sunday. Brandon Durbin returned to QCR and grabbed the lead right away with last week’s winner, Mitch Morris, and Ray Bollinger on his bumper. Morris managed to get under B. Durbin and take over the lead with Bollinger, Doug Crampton, and Milo Veloz Jr. fighting behind them. Crampton would come out on the top of that battle and set his sights on Morris. Crampton ran down Morris and was on his bumper lap after lap. Nathan Balensiefen came on strong late and caught up to Morris and Crampton. Morris held them both off for his second win in a row at QCR. Crampton held onto second followed by Balensiefen, Veloz, and Bollinger. Heat race wins went to Balensiefen, Morris, and Veloz.

QCS - UMP Modifieds ended the show with some excitement. The Front Row Challenge for the UMP Modifieds was kicked up a notch. Promoter, Brian Stuart, really put the pressure on points leader Milo Veloz Jr. who decided to take the challenge. Stuart told Veloz if he wins the fans next week would get $2 off admission and $1.50 beer and pop. Veloz wasted no time and started passing cars on every lap. Up front Mitch Morris was hugging the bottom leading lap after lap. Kevin Blum who started seventh moved up to second and set his sights on Morris. Blum caught up to Morris and in turns one and two Morris stayed down low while Blum went all the way up against the wall. Blum would get a nice run off of two but it was enough to get by Morris. Then Blum would get right on Morris’ bumper in the three and four and try the very top side in one and two. Lap after lap they raced this way with Blum trying everything to get by Morris. Meanwhile Veloz was coming through the pack quickly but at the half, while running seventh, Veloz’s cars slowed on the track ending his night. Back up front Morris, the second generation driver, was too strong on the bottom side and would hold off Blum for his first UMP Modified feature win. After Blum it was Doug Crampton, Jim Sandusky, and Doug Curless. Heat race wins went to Veloz and Crampton.

QCR - A nice field of 21 UMP Modifieds showed up to take a shot at the $500 to win weekly feature event. “Primetime” Milo Veloz Jr. took advantage of starting on the pole and jumped out to the early lead with Doug Crampton on his bumper. Veloz continued to lead lap after lap running the low side of the track while towards the back Nathan Balensiefen and Mike Zemo Jr. found a different way around QCR, all the way up against to wall. Every lap Balensiefen and Zemo were passing cars and before long Balensiefen was challenging Crampton for second. Balensiefen stayed up high and got by Crampton and set his sights on Veloz. With two laps to go Balensiefen was right on Veloz for lead but Veloz was able to hold him off and take home the victory. Balensiefen, coming from 12th, would keep second followed Crampton, Zemo, who come from 10th, and Nick Hixson. Heats went to Veloz and Crampton.

QCR - Patient and calculating, Zack VanderBeek has been a model of consistency this season. The 23-year-old from New Sharon, Iowa, has racked up eight top-5s and ten top-10 finishes in 17 starts this season, and Sunday night he finally put a digit in the win column with a thrilling victory at the Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill. The 2004 Rookies Rockin’ Sports Bar Rookie of the Year started the 24-car, 40-lap main event from the ninth starting spot, but quickly picked off his competition as he moved to the front. On lap 16, VanderBeek was up to second and challenging leader Marty Thompson on the low side of the racing surface. Four laps later, VanderBeek was still looking for a way around Thompson when defending race winner Kelly Shryock took control using the high side of the high-banked quarter-mile oval. With Shryock pulling away, VanderBeek was finally able to wrestle the runner-up spot away from Thompson and quickly began closing the gap on the leader. While Shryock was faster than Thompson, he was no match for VanderBeek as “The Z-Man” took the lead away on lap 29, then paced the final 11 laps and won going away. Shryock held on for second with pole sitter Dereck Ramirez scoring a career-best third ahead of Jason Hughes. Thompson claimed a fifth-place paycheck. Milo Veloz, Al Hejna, Bruce Hanford, Alan Mondus and Bob Dominacki finished sixth through 10th, respectively, in a race that went caution-free after a first-lap yellow brought about a complete restart.

JCS - Pro Modified first heat winner, John Ahlers had the pole for the feature, but had some problems negotiating turn three and brought out the races first caution allowing Tim Pestka to lead the first lap. Ray Cox Jr took over on lap three and the caution flew again. On the restart second heat winner, Bob Dominacki edged out Cox to lead lap four by inches and the caution flew again. Cox Took back the lead on this restart and held it until the end. After the white was displayed the caution flew for the last time and Cox got his first win of the season. Dominacki was second with Doug Crampton third. Ahlers came back through the pack to take fourth over Matt Stein’s fifth.

Tipton - The Modified feature is usually the last on the racing menu but not tonight. Ryan Dolan worked his way to the front quickly as he passed Tim Arp for the lead a few laps in. Mike Thomas and Arp would battle for several laps for second. Bruce Hanford and Mike Zemo would use three cautions to there advantage as they moved up several spots after the cautions. Hanford and Arp would get around Arp and Thomas with Dolan just a few car lengths ahead. On the last lap Zemo almost got Hanford for second but had to settle for third. Dolan gets his second win of the season with Hanford second, Zemo third, Arp fourth Thomas fifth.

QCR The UMP Modifieds closed out the racing action Sunday. Jake Waterman took control of the early lead with Milo Veloz Jr. and Mike Zemo Jr. right on his bumper. After leading several laps, Waterman pulled the 10 car into the infield with problems under the hood. Veloz took over the lead and began pulling away from the pack. Veloz would lead the rest of the way winning another feature at QCR. Marty Thompson had a nice run coming all the way from the back to challenge Zemo for second. Another driver who had an impressive run was Colona’s Jerry Durbin. Even with smoke coming out the back of the car he still passed five cars and finished fourth. Doug Crampton also came from the back to take home fifth. The heats went to Zemo and Waterman.

JCS Starting from the pole, Scott Olson took the lead of the Pro Modified feature with Mike Zemo Jr taking over on lap five. Then on lap six came the big one as six cars piled up in the middle of the front chute, retiring four of them. On the restart Zemo went back out front, but on lap nine John Bull, who had started well towards the rear and had somehow missed the big one, took the point. Bull went on for his first win of the season at Jackson County Speedway as Zemo held on for second. Mel Saffran was third with Jerry Miles fourth and Doug Crampton fifth. Heat wins went to Kevin Blum, Crampton and Ray Cox Jr.

QCR Up next were the UMP Modifieds and they delivered an excellent feature event. Veteran Bob Stogdell in the 50 took the early lead with Mike Zemo Jr. in the Z in chase. Zemo would drop out the mechanical problems so while Stogdell was building a lead the real race was for second between Jake Waterman in the 10, Milo Veloz Jr. in the 43, Nathan Balensiefen in the 83, and Marty Thompson in the 25. You could throw a blanket over these drivers that’s how close they were running. A yellow came with six laps to go and that’s not what Stogdell wanted to see. On the restart Stogdell lost his driveshaft forcing him to pull the car into the infield. Waterman took over the lead with Veloz and Balensiefen on his bumper. Waterman found a unique way around QCR. Going into turns one and two he would slide the car all the way up against the wall slapping the tail against the wall and the running the very bottom of the track in turns three and four. This worked for Waterman until the final lap. Going into turn one Waterman would climb the wall and instead of the rolling the car he landed it back on all four wheels and continued racing. This allowed Veloz and Balensiefen to get by and race side by side with Balensiefen taking home the narrow victory. Waterman managed to hold onto third with Donovan Lodge fourth, who came from 10th, and Doug Curless fifth. Heat race wins went to Stogdell and Waterman.

DS The Pro Mod feature saw a rash of yellow flags. When the race’s seventh caution flag flew, so did the checkers. Kevin Blum outlasted the yellows and just nipped Donovan Lodge to take his first victory of the season at Davenport. JCS Friday nights Davenport Speedway Pro Modified winner, Mike Zemo Jr., drew lucky number one to start Saturday's feature and looked like he was going to make it two in a row (engine blew). Zemo led until an eleventh lap caution flew and he had to retire to the pits with mechanical woes. On the restart Kevin Blum charged out from and was still there when the caution flew again at lap fifteen. The race was called at this point as the rains had moved in and the nights program was over. Blum was followed by Tim Arp, Doug Crampton, Dan Klatt and Jake Bowman. Don Pataska and Bob Dominacki were the heat winners.

QCR The featured event of the evening was the J&J Campers 3rd Annual Ronnie Weedon Memorial for the UMP Modifieds. Right when the green waved to get the feature going Milo Veloz Jr. in the 43 and Marty Thompson in the 25 began battling for the lead. Meanwhile the 32 of Donovan Lodge and the 10 of Jake Waterman began weaving their way through traffic moving towards the front. Several cautions would keep the field bunched up for most of the race with Veloz and Thompson continuing to fight for the lead. Thompson would try the middle groove to get the lead but Veloz proved to be strong and would take the checkered flag and win the Ronnie Weedon Memorial. Thompson would take second followed by Waterman, Lodge, and the 77 of Ray Bollinger.

QCR WDRL show. It's racing season again and every driver can't wait to get back in the seat; however, Modifieds may have wished they had passed for the season opener and saved repairs to their car. The Z incurred a lost tire (not due to lug nuts), a broken rotor, a broken bird cage, and lastly, had enough of the bull ride to spit out the drive shaft and plant her sore chassis on the trailer. Of course, as all racing die-hards, this was one night when the guys scratch their head and ask themselves what am I doing here and become overly quiet as they observe the destruction; but a day later they are in racing mode again and have set a deadline to have the car race-ready for Friday.
