Davenport - The Petersen
Plumbing an d Heating – IMCA Late Model feature had all the drama
and plot twists of a Hollywood movie. Ray Guss Jr., came into the
night leading both the track points and the IMCA Late Model national
points, with a slim lead over Terry Neal. Guss started on the pole
position and quickly built a sizeable lead. The caution flag started
flying on lap seven and would wave three more times by lap 12. It
was during this period that Guss developed mechanical problems and
dropped back in the field. Meanwhile, Neal was rifling through the
pack and took the lead on lap twelve. Neal would go untouched the
remainder of the 25 laps for the win and the much needed points towards
his national title hopes. He also became the eighth different late
model winner in nine races at Davenport, this season. Defending IMCA
national champion, Kevin Blum, battled to a second place finish in
a borrowed car, with Doug Nigh finishing third and Matt Ryan fourth.
Brian Harris rounded out the top five. Guss stayed on the racetrack
and nursed his ride to a fourteenth place finish, enough to give him
the track championship at the Davenport Speedway and the precious
bonus points towards the national crown. 1. Terry Neal; 2. Kevin Blum;

in turn four sending all three to the rear of the field. On the restart
Guss went out front and never looked back to take the win. Eric Gustaf

The Davenport Speedway
kicked off Memorial Day weekend with exciting racing action. The fans
were treated first-time winners, last lap passes, and near perfect
weather conditions. Ray Guss Jr. returned to the winner’s circle in
the Petersen Plumbing & Heating, IMCA Late Model action. Guss was
able to get by Bret Diercks on lap seventeen and hold on for the win.

wreck. All three were able to walk away from the accident. When the
race resumed, Guss drove on to the win, Bret Diercks was able to hold

Davenport - The Davenport
Speedway was able to get their second point race of the 2010 season
in Friday evening. Rain during the week made for a soft and tacky
racetrack, which led to exciting racing action in all six classes.
Late model racer Brian Harris had not competed in weekly racing at
the Davenport Speedway in several years, but that did not keep him
from finding his way back to victory lane. Harris took the lead of
the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature on a lap
seven restart, and led the remaining laps, en route to the win. Kevin
Blum, who seemed to be battling someone for position the entire race,
finished second. Cory Goldbeck ran a solid race to finish third, followed

serious injury. While Diercks was comfortably in the lead a group
of four racers were making their way to the front. Terry Neal started
14th and worked his way to a second place finish. After starting

Jackson County - Hallelujah!
With a few motor problems and too little time our plans for a trip
to Maquoketa were cancelled. The two Z's toiled, made frantic phone
calls, and quick part runs to fix Friday night's problem. An hour
and a half before the scheduled heat race it was announced we were
going to the Deery show. From then on the hectic race ensued and we
weren't even on the track. To make a long story short, The Z arrived
in time, unloaded, teched, and was ready to rock and roll. Our draw
was the first sign of the light at the end of the tunnel and we started
in the first heat race front row. No Consi for this night and we completed
the feature in 13th from a field of at least 51 cars. Great job Michael!
Special thanks to the professor, Nate, Russ, Rick, and Donna.

Davenport - A cold dusty
night for the Deery show in Davenport. Everyone was pumped and ready
for a second chance at our first feature in the Late Model. At the
start of the heat race a hiccup occurred and the Z was turned around
and headed to the back of the pack. So much for an easy pass. The
remainder of the heat was one "mad" dash to get as close
to the front as possible before the checkered flag waived. Mission
accomplished and our place in the Consi would be workable. As the
cars lined up for the Consi and made their trip around the track a
noise from the field indicated one unlucky person was not going to
have a good night. The Z had broke and was on its way to its pit for
an end to the night. Thanks to Dave and Russ for their diligence and
support we are enjoying the ride and their friendships.

Burlington - 64 Late
Models participated in the Slocum 50 event vying for chance to be
a part of the racing action. Z was unable to make the show in either
the heat race (top 2) or Consi (top 3) Shout out to: Beuseling (2)
Toland (3) Malmstrom (7) Guss Jr. (10) Nate lead the field lap upon
lap and Toland came from 22nd to a 3rd place finish. Thanks to friends
who offered support and assistance for our first night of racing

Peoria - The Zemo's were Peoria
bound for a Modified Show in the Mach 1 and were race ready going
from garage to the track and displaying an excellent run in the
heat race coming in second from a fourth place start (can I say
Auto-Ron's was all we needed last year). The Feature placed us in
a 7th starting position and Michael moved to 5th by the fourth lap;
however, as luck would have it another car ran us into the wall
(during a darn caution). The A-frame was broke and disappointingly
our night was finished. Excellent racing in Peoria and the track
was in great shape whether you ran low, middle, or high. Wonderful
having friends and family along for a night's race and a special
thanks to Laurie for saving seats (although it was really all about
not missing one iota of racing action LOL).
